Scooter Braun Claims He Doesn’t Know Taylor Swift Despite the War

  • Scooter Braun says he never truly knew Taylor Swift.
  • Their feud began after he bought her masters in 2019.
  • Taylor Swift publicly denounced the situation.
  • Braun says today he bears no ill will.

Although their names are firmly linked in the music industry and a high-profile public clash defined their years, Scooter Braun recently told The Free Press that he never really knew Taylor Swift on a personal level. The producer stresses that he never built a real relationship with the singer, which he argues softens the public view of a rivalry that was more personal than it actually was.

Recall that in June 2019, Scooter Braun purchased the Big Machine Label Group for about $300 million, a deal that gave him control of the original masters of Swift’s early albums. Following the sale, the singer reportedly tried to reacquire her masters, but her request was denied, which quickly sparked a major public controversy.

Taylor Swift then spoke out about the situation on social media, expressing deep frustration at losing control of her catalog. In a Tumblr post in 2019, she claimed that Scooter Braun had “stolen the work of her life,” adding that her music was now in the hands of someone who had attempted to destroy it, remarks that fueled the controversy at the time.

On his side, Braun explains in the interview that at the time it was difficult to go from being a respected industry figure—well known for discovering Justin Bieber and building a solid reputation in music—to becoming the target of massive backlash from Taylor Swift’s fans, a period that profoundly marked his career.

Almost strangers

During the podcast, Scooter Braun revisited the public perception of his relationship with Taylor Swift, which he believes is largely erroneous. He says there are several false ideas circulating about their ties and their shared history in the music industry.

“But I think there’s a very common misperception, like we knew each other, that we were on bad terms and that I was her manager for years,” he explained. He added: “People are usually surprised to learn that I don’t know her at all, that we’ve had very little interaction and that I never really knew her.”

In the same vein, he reiterated his remarks in the interview and podcast, stating: “I don’t know her at all, I haven’t had much interaction with her and I never really knew her,” in response to reports that he had a direct relationship with the singer before the masters dispute. He also clarified: “I think I’ve met her three times in my life,” underscoring how rare their exchanges were.

Finally, Scooter Braun opened up about not bearing any grudges toward the singer:

“I’ll never fully understand this situation. I wish her all the best (…) I’ve chosen to learn from it and grow. I’m grateful for where I am in life.”

A high-profile new couple

Recently, Scooter Braun’s agent and producer reportedly made his romantic relationship with actress Sydney Sweeney official, the star of the popular series Euphoria. The actress has fueled speculation by sharing a series of photos showing her with the man said to be her new partner, quickly attracting online attention.

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift continues her own highly publicized romance with football star Travis Kelce. The couple remains a staple of entertainment headlines, as rumors about a potential marriage frequently surface in gossip circuits.

After years marked by a major public controversy surrounding Swift’s masters, it now seems the tensions between the singer and Scooter Braun belong to the past. With the long-running dispute seemingly behind them, many fans and observers hope they can move forward into a more peaceful era, both personally and professionally.
