Chantal Machabée was the guest on the program For Once.
Recall that the show unfolds as four short interviews with well-known public figures.
When you think of Chantal, you inevitably picture success in a world where men are still very much in the majority. But she has managed to carve out a place for herself with brilliance and poise.
It was during her conversation with sports columnist Elizabeth Rancourt that she opened up about singleness.
Yes indeed! The mother of two adult sons is still single.
The Montréal Canadiens’ Director of Communications doesn’t, shall we say, have a lot of time for dating — as she explains to her interviewer.
An Impossible Relationship?
“I see people, but I don’t date (…) I don’t have a date (…) No, there’s nothing, it’s flatline. First, because I work a lot. So, during hockey season, I average two days off per month, typically a Sunday, and I’m so tired that (…) I work every game, every practice. On average, 90 games per year, plus the practices (…) and a game day at the Bell Centre, that’s 17 hours (…) There isn’t a guy who could endure that. You know, on a Saturday night, I have zero plans for Saturday nights; you know, are we going to the movies… are we going to dinner?” she revealed, adding that anyway, when she has a Sunday off from work, she wants to relax and not go out.

She also explains that men her age don’t necessarily gravitate toward her.
“At the age I am, men my age tend to prefer younger women. And that, for the most part, is the case. I’m very realistic,” she disclosed, also noting that it doesn’t really bother her, since she is very well supported in daily life, and she’s also a grandmother.

A moment of great authenticity, as Chantal opened up with all her wisdom and candor.
