Benoît Brière recently appeared on the show Sweet & Salty for a captivating interview, during which he revisited various chapters of his impressive and ongoing career. The conversation shed light on both his recent projects and some of the more notable moments from his past work in the entertainment industry.
One of the key topics discussed was his upcoming stage play, The 39 Steps, which he will perform in this summer alongside Luc Guérin and Martin Drainville. While talking about this production, Benoît reflected on a past project he did with these same friends—a film that, frankly, didn’t quite succeed and is often considered a flop.
He brought up the movie Angélo, Frédo, and Roméo, openly acknowledging it as a box office misfire. This particular film, despite its lack of commercial success, has gained a certain cult status in Quebec—it’s the kind of movie people joke about as a must-watch in groups, often renting it from local shops or the SQDC (Quebec’s cannabis retailer) just for fun.

With a wink and humor tinged with irony, Benoît quipped, “It’s a cult film in Quebec; you have to go to the SQDC with your friends to rent it and watch it.” The film marked the first project he, Luc, and Martin worked on together, and it seems that experience was far from smooth.
He also revealed that it took roughly 15 years before he, Martin, and Luc were willing to reunite on a project and work together again. Thankfully, many years had passed since that tumultuous experience, allowing time for healing and reconnection.

Today, Benoît looks back on that difficult chapter with a sense of perspective, appreciating the growth and changes over the years. It’s a reminder that sometimes, even failed projects can lead to valuable lessons and renewed collaborations.
Have you seen the film *Angélo, Frédo, and Roméo*? If not, perhaps it’s time to check it out—just for the cultural experience, if nothing else.
