Don’t tell anyone
This morning on Salut Bonjour, a prominent figure in the news walked onto the set. After many years at the helm of the big newscasts, Sophie Thibault was reunited with Eve-Marie Lortie for a soft, easygoing interview.
The former lead anchor sat down to discuss her brand-new photography project, a passion she has nurtured for years that today occupies an even larger space in her life. But beyond the art, the conversation wandered into this newfound freedom she’s savoring now that she’s no longer at the front lines of daily news. Free from the frenetic pace of current events, Sophie was able to reveal a more personal side of herself, including her esoteric leanings and her belief in signs from life.
But We Don’t Dance on Tables
“What kind of freedoms do you gain when you’re no longer the lead anchor?” asked Eve-Marie Lortie.
“I wouldn’t go dancing on tables necessarily…,” Sophie Thibault replied, while confirming she does have a little festive side.
“No, but it’s true—there is a more festive side you keep for your inner circle,” added the Salut Bonjour host.
She Can Now Take Better Care of Herself
“We’re actually terrible, really—don’t tell anyone—but yes, you know what I was told: For 37 years I was a war machine. You know what that’s like, when you’re on the air four hours a day, five days a week? It takes discipline; you have to be in shape, be present, remember everything, know our stories, and now I haven’t been a war machine for a year. And since I’ve done a bit of shooting, you know, it feels strange to be in the spotlight because the angle has totally shifted, and it suits me just fine. It feels like it’s traveled from the head to the heart. I have time to take care of things here, and time to enjoy this connection I feel with life when I photograph,” she revealed.

Sophie also has numerous photographic projects in progress—an authentic, deeply rooted passion that now occupies the space it deserves. It’s clear she’s exactly where she’s meant to be.
This interview, at once entertaining and moving, let us discover a woman even more connected to her heart.
And even though she’s no longer at the front lines of the news, one thing is certain: seeing Sophie back on television always leaves us a touch nostalgic. We wish her all the best for what lies ahead… and a future filled with even more light on her path.
