I forgive you, Pat…
In March 2025, it was announced that this would be the end for Simon Olivier Fecteau at the helm of the Bye Bye, as the creator, writer, comedian, director, and accomplished producer would no longer serve as the creative leader of Quebec’s iconic year-end revue.

The announcement had been confirmed by Radio-Canada.
“That was my last Bye Bye! For nine years, I’ve had the privilege of steering this historic program in Quebec and across Canada, but I believe the time has come for me to pass the torch. I will turn 50 this summer, and for a few years now I’ve wanted to invest in other projects, take on new challenges, perform and write more, and return to more personal ventures. And I think this is the time—now or never—to make this leap. I want to thank the Bye Bye team, the actors, the writers, and the audience for their unwavering support. It’s with a heart full of memorable memories that I’m leaving this chapter. I’ve been lucky to work with a fantastic crew, and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished. A big thanks to Radio-Canada as well for their support and for the exceptional collaboration we’ve had. I couldn’t have asked for more. I’m convinced the Bye Bye will continue to entertain Quebecers for many years to come,” Fecteau stated in a press release.
Away from the project for the first time, but not far from the jokes
For the first time in a decade, Simon Olivier Fecteau will experience the holiday season without having to worry about this project, which, as a reminder, had already caused him health issues in the past.
Now a mere spectator, just like us, he wanted to reveal what he plans to do during December…
“This will be the first time in 10 years that I’m not in the Bye Bye rush throughout December. What am I going to do?” he quips, alongside rolling, humorous footage in which he says he’ll eat, sleep, pay his bills on time, undergo colonoscopies, and… forgive Patrick Lagacé.
“I forgive you, Pat,” you hear, before an excerpt from the interview in which Patrick responds that forgiveness isn’t needed.
It isn’t because he’s no longer signing off on the Bye Bye that he has lost his taste for parody—far from it. In this cheeky sketch, where he clearly takes aim at Guillaume Lemay-Thivierge following his recent interview on Patrick Lagacé’s program, he proves that his satire remains razor-sharp.
“What am I going to do without Bye Bye,” he adds, in tandem with the video.
A 2025: a treasure trove of topics to lampoon
2025 looks to be full of surprises—pleasing, challenging, and sometimes questionable—that will undoubtedly supply a wealth of material to mine for this year’s closing-edition of satire.
In the video, Simon Olivier Fecteau playfully hints at a few topics… you can almost see some of the Bye Bye 2025 sketches coming down the line.
Do you think his absence will be felt? If not, what topics do you think will be tackled in the highly anticipated annual comedy revue?
The countdown has begun…
