The conference promoted by the Castellini Foundation, “Building Bridges of Care: The Evolution of Palliative Care Through Experience, Innovation, and Quality of Life”, will be held on Friday, October 30, 2026 at the Mediceo Castle of Melegnano.
The initiative is designed to stimulate a reflection on the future of palliative care and the management of the most fragile individuals. In a country characterized by an aging population and a rise in chronic illnesses, the issue of the skills required to accompany people and families along increasingly complex care pathways takes on growing importance.
«Palliative care today represents one of the most significant challenges facing the health and social care system. The aging population, the increase in chronic diseases, and the growing complexity of caregiving needs demand innovative organizational models, new professional competencies, and greater integration between services and professions. For this reason, with this conference we wanted to create a moment of discussion and sharing on a topic that is increasingly important in the health and social care landscape», stated the president of the Castellini Foundation, Davide Reati.
During the day, several timely topics will be explored:
- the evolution of palliative care networks,
- the integration between long-term care facilities (LTCFs), hospices, and community care,
- quality of life in the most delicate phases of illness,
- the new skills required of professionals,
- communication with the patient and the family,
- the ethical aspects of care,
- the future prospects of the health and social care system.
The conference will feature experts, professionals, and institutional representatives active across the various domains of care and assistance, with the aim of promoting a dialogue among experiences, professional practices, and organizational models. Among the topics on the program are also the interaction between palliative care and geriatrics, caregiver awareness and networking, the bioethical issues surrounding the approach to care, and the caregiving relationship in the face of the existential questions raised by illness. Also speaking will be Lorenzo Chiesa, the Foundation’s Chief Medical Officer, who will present the in-house palliative care school.
A dedicated segment will focus on caregiver testimonies through readings from the Logbook, a collection of experiences and reflections that gives voice to those who accompany patients daily on their journey.
The event is open to physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, nursing and healthcare aides, professionals from long-term care facilities and hospices, caregivers, and anyone who wishes to delve into the topic of palliative care and quality of life in the most vulnerable situations. Attendance is free and CME credits are available.
