Whether it’s for a wide range of advertisements or for noble causes, the Habs consistently step up, even with their demanding schedules. They can also count on the support of their partners to get involved in the Montreal community, notably with the CH Foundation for Children.
United for a Worthy Cause
In this recent post shared by the Montreal Canadiens, we glimpse a very family-friendly holiday moment: several players’ partners come together to wrap gifts tied to Operation Santa Claus, and the club chooses to spotlight this snippet because it closely reflects the team’s sense of camaraderie that goes beyond the rink.
Among the participants is Katyaa (Ekaterina) Yakovleva, the girlfriend of young prospect Ivan Demidov, who is accompanying his partner as he joins the organization and has been increasingly visible in Montreal’s Canadiens circle, signaling a quick integration into the club’s life.
Next to her appears Jordan Leigh, Patrik Laine’s wife, whose involvement in this kind of activity aligns with the visibility she has assumed since Laine’s arrival in Montreal, particularly through CH initiatives.
Finally, Paola Anderson, Josh Anderson’s wife, is also part of the group: for several seasons she has been a familiar face around the Canadiens’ social and community events, and her presence reinforces the idea that these efforts are a collective endeavor in which players’ families actively participate.
This post continues the tradition: a club that, as the holidays approach, uses its reach to support a distinctly Quebecois generosity tradition. The spouses seen here play a quiet yet essential role, donating their time and energy so that the magic of Christmas can reach the children who need it most.
What is Operation Santa Claus?
Operation Santa Claus is a Quebec-based foundation active since the mid-1990s, mobilizing each autumn a broad network of donors, businesses, and volunteers to fulfill the gift wishes expressed by children facing significant vulnerability across Quebec.
Children write a letter, the organization pairs them with Santa Clauses who purchase a new gift that matches their requests, and teams of volunteers handle the preparation and distribution of the presents, with a reserve of gifts and funds to cover last-minute or more expensive requests.
The initiative has grown over the years, now reaching tens of thousands of children annually (nearly 29,000 in 2023, with a target of around 32,000 expected for the next campaign), making it one of the major charitable traditions of the Quebec holiday season.
The organization also notes that the surge in needs and rising costs put real pressure on its ability to cover everything, making public participation and volunteer recruitment more essential than ever.
A singular cause, for a magical season!
