Marie-Lyne Joncas was recently the guest on a Sunday rendezvous that many eagerly anticipate each week: Le beau dimanche de Jeannot, hosted by Jean-Sébastien Girard. With his distinctive flair, the host invites guests to tackle topics that can be delicate, often giving rise to moments that are both touching and humorous.

You must be incredibly rich

During her appearance, Marie-Lyne Joncas opened up about her fulfilling love life, her talent as an actress, and her relationship with money.

At the end of the segment, an audience member present during the taping prompted Marie-Lyne Joncas to discuss the money she had earned back then from the LPS advertisement.

Marie-Lyne Joncas: Extremely Rich?

“Was it paid, at the time, to do the LPS ads?” he asked.

“I did a LPS ad (…) which aired for 13 years. It’s a language school. So I would say: ‘Thanks to LPS I’m able to travel without relying on others,’ as I had long black hair back then, wearing an orange sweater, and Jason Roy-Leveillé directed the commercial, wow. And I made about $1,000 from it,” she reveals, as those present gasp.

“I was at the School of Humor, I thought… Me, $1,000, I thought that was huge,” she explains.

“You signed years of reruns without ever getting more,” the host remarks.

“Well no, but it wasn’t a union deal, and then, at some point, you know… I became known, and people were like: ‘You look like the girl in the language ad,’ I’m like: ‘Oh yeah, people tell me that a lot,’” she adds.

At that moment, Jean-Sébastien recalled that she had done more than one advertisement, including one promoting the Crispy Minis.

“That was really interesting—two days of filming in Toronto, you know, and I paid cash for a Volvo (…) with Crispy Minis, no but it was amazing for real, the experience was mind-blowing, I freaked out, I arrived in Toronto like Justin Bieber heading to a show (…),” she recalls.

Hey, you must be incredibly rich,” the host says.

Oh yeah, people tell me I’m the Martin Matte of the scene,” Marie-Lyne jokes as Girard asks what it’s like at home.

“It’s a shoebox (..) with big skylights (…) I’m glad because I earn a decent living, really, but I’m someone who is very frugal; I put a lot of money aside. I want to make sure I have a nice retirement, I want to be able to buy things that will make me happy, I want to travel, and I want to be able to fix my crawl space at the cottage if mold ever shows up there (…) but you know, taking care of one’s money (…),” she testifies.
