- Manon Massé reflects on an intense period.
- A career that’s been full.
- One reason behind her breakup.
- A message of acceptance.
Manon Massé was in town for a rare interview on a podcast, an opportunity for her to open up further and tackle a range of topics close to her heart. Invited to the Elles podcast, a platform designed to empower women to speak up, be inspired, and learn from one another, the former spokesperson for Québec solidaire revisited a particularly intense period of her life.
With a great deal of transparency, Manon Massé spoke about the many responsibilities she carried when she was deeply involved in politics.
“To add a full-time legislator’s job, which is already an extremely demanding role in terms of time, preparation, researching files, etc., on top of that the job of spokesperson for a democratic party (…) That was a pretty crazy job. I’d say that for seven to eight years, I simply had no life. You can ask my girlfriend from the time; she’ll tell you, that’s probably partly why she’s no longer my girlfriend, because I had zero availability,” she explains.
She acknowledges today that her commitment had taken up a lot of space in her life: “I was completely swept up in the project; it wasn’t healthy.”
A sincere testimony that reveals the behind-the-scenes of political life and the personal sacrifices that major commitments can sometimes demand.
Manon Massé also revisited the testimonials she still receives from people today. Continue reading to learn more.
A Fine Example for Many
Still within the Elles podcast, Manon Massé opened up about the many messages of appreciation she receives from people who see themselves in her. She explains that her presence in the political landscape means a great deal to those who don’t always feel represented.
“Especially women who don’t fit the standards, men as well, tell me a lot that simply the fact that I’m in the political arena makes them feel like they have the right to exist,” Manon explains.
She also adds a message of authenticity: “So be who you are; it’s much less complicated, first of all (…) When you are who you are, no one can tell you you’re wrong.”
A powerful, meaningful message that resonates with many people. Through her words, Manon Massé reminds us of the importance of staying true to oneself, fully owning who you are, and not trying to fit into boxes imposed by society. A message of authenticity and acceptance that encourages everyone to claim their place, believe in their worth, and move forward with confidence, no matter the differences.
