I’m Not Going to Ask You for Money: Matt Lang, the Heartbroken Man
It broke my heart…
In 2025, social media play a major role in daily life and in public spaces.

They bring people closer, inform, and entertain, all while giving artists a direct line to their audience. Yet, unfortunately, the negative can sometimes take over, especially in a recurring situation that often targets artists.
More and more, celebrities find their name and likeness used to trap online users. Fake accounts imitate official profiles, photos are doctored and stolen, the artist’s writing style is copied, and then someone tries to reach out to fans. The schemes vary: promises of contests, exclusive offers, tickets for sale, VIP access, private meet-and-greets… or worse, requests for money and false investment opportunities.
That’s precisely what musician Matt Lang wanted to expose, as he recently shared a cautionary message on his social networks.
“Warning! Watch the video in full, it matters, and please share,” he wrote, alongside his video.
An Important Message
I don’t have anyone else in my life.
The singer Matt Lang spoke openly on the matter following a recent misadventure, when his name and image were used without authorization on social media.
Like several artists before him, he discovered the existence of fake accounts pretending to be him, directly addressing fans and spreading misleading messages. This situation, both frustrating and unnerving, pushed him to break his silence and set the record straight.
“Hi everyone! I hope you’re all doing well (…) To the person watching the video, please watch it jusqu’à la fin. It’s important, really important, for real. Something happened to me this past weekend, and I want to tell you about it. This isn’t something I… enjoy doing, especially videos like this, but I’m going to do it. I’ll do it on behalf of several people, I think,” he begins.
“There are a lot of fake accounts on social media. There are a lot of people who pretend to be artists, and I’ll speak for myself, but there are many fake Matt Lang accounts posing as me, and there’s fraud through that. To tell the story quickly, over the weekend I was at Maurice’s, and a woman showed up. I’m not naming names, because if there’s one, there are others, so be careful! Never, ever give out your credit cards. Never pay! I would never ask you for money. I love you all, but I can’t even maintain a written relationship with anyone. It’s not because I don’t want to, but there are a lot of things going on, and I have a team handling my social media here, so please watch out. There is no one on my team who will reach out to you to take money from you,” he explains seriously to his followers.
“I have a girlfriend, I have kids I love. I don’t have anyone else in my life. It’s important to say, because there are people who think they have relationships with me, but that’s not me. To keep this short, over the weekend, the person in question was giving $150… and perhaps more per week to the scammer, thinking it was me. Honestly, it really got to me, a lot, a lot, a lot; it upsets me. Because it’s my identity,” he confesses, visibly distressed by the situation.
A Scourge in Our Society
It makes me feel like I’m getting scammed…
Lang continued his message, explaining that this isn’t merely a one-off post but a cause he cares deeply about. Moved to see that fans, often well-meaning, can fall victim to fraud by believing they’re interacting with him, the singer said he felt compelled to speak up and warn others.
For him, the trust he shares with his audience is precious, and he refuses to let it be broken by malicious individuals.
“It’s close to my heart, and it broke my heart to break someone else’s heart, because when she left, she was sad, she cried, and that touches me. I don’t want this to happen. I’m talking about it, and it really gets to me… I’ll put it this way, but it makes me feel like I’m being torn apart that this is happening to my identity. (…) A lot of artists go through this. It’s a scourge today. We don’t talk about it enough. Be careful. I don’t have Telegram, I won’t ask you for money,” he adds.
“I love you… I have a deep love for every person who follows me, and thank you for being part of my journey, but be careful, because the last thing I want is for something like this to happen to you,” he says, also noting that he is committed to delivering this important message regularly.
By sharing this warning, Matt Lang urges vigilance, source verification, and the systematic reporting of scams, in order to blunt the scammers’ blade.
A difficult situation that prompts us to extend our thoughts and support to those affected by this plague.
As the singer puts it so well: be careful!
