Anna Wintour’s Era Ends as She Officially Names Her French Successor

After 37 years of faithful service, Anne Wintour is stepping down from Vogue USA. The fashion doyenne announced the news to her team a few weeks ago. And she officially revealed on September 2, 2025 the name of the person who will take her seat at the fashion magazine.
On Vogue’s Instagram account, it was revealed that the discreet Chloé Mallewas the new editorial content director of Vogue US.”
Speaking about her, Anna Wintour has nothing but praise. She says: “I am delighted to announce that Chloé Malle will be the next editor”.

Anna Wintour Has Chosen Chloe Malle

And adds, “Fashion is the art of embracing change, but some changes are closer to its heart than others.” Chloe Malle was until now the magazine’s Social Editor (in charge of social media). She had previously worked at the New York Observer and at New York Style.

She is also the daughter of actress Candice Bergen. For a bit of trivia, she appeared in “Sex and the City” as Carrie’s editor at Vogue. Chloe Malle carries her father’s name, the legendary French director Louis Malle.

Louis Malle directed the major classics of the French New Wave, “Ascenseur pour l’échaffaud” (Elevator to the Gallows), “Zazie dans le métro”, and “Au revoir les enfants”. He died in 1995, when Chloe was 10 years old. The young woman grew up in the United States.

Following in the Footsteps of a Legend

There’s no telling whether rumors will pin the new editor to a romance with a pop icon, as Bob Marley did with Anna Wintour. There’s also little chance she’ll become the subject of a book, like The Devil Wears Prada, which, as a reminder, will get a second installment in May 2026.
One thing is certain: Anna Wintour isn’t really leaving the company. She will keep her responsibilities as head of content for all brands, on a global level for Condé Nast. She remains the editor-in-chief of Vogue World, the international edition of the fashion magazine.
