Aboca Wins Award for Sustainable Scientific Communication

Aboca Secures Third Place in Scientific Communication Category at the “Le Eccellenze dell’Informazione Scientifica e la Centralità del Paziente” Award

Aboca has achieved third place in the “Traditional Scientific Information” category at the prestigious “Le Eccellenze dell’Informazione Scientifica e la Centralità del Paziente” awards. Now in its ninth edition, this event stands out in Italy because the winners are chosen directly by medical professionals. The award recognizes projects that promote clear, rigorous, and patient-centered medical-scientific communication.

An Extensive and Esteemed Selection Process

Sponsored by the Medical Scientific Communication Observatory (OCMS) and supported by the non-biased contributions of Merqurio and Bhave, the competition received a record-breaking total of 6,721 submissions. The event culminated with 87 finalists, 45 winners, as well as 15 special recognitions and a career achievement award. The initiative is endorsed by prominent organizations including the National Federation of Orders of Doctors, Dentists and Pharmacists (FNOMCeO), the Italian Society of General Medicine (SIMG), Citizen Action (Cittadinanzattiva), the Pharmaceutical Industry Association (Farmindustria), APMARR (Association for Patients with Rare Diseases), and UNIAMO (National Union of Patient and Consumer Associations).

One Health: A Holistic Approach

Aboca was honored for its campaign titled “A One Health Approach Isn’t Just Necessary — It’s Also Achievable.” This project introduced an innovative communication model that integrates clinical evidence with environmental sustainability. It equips healthcare professionals with tools to evaluate therapies not only based on their efficacy but also considering their ecological impact.

Patient Health and Environmental Wellbeing

As explained by Stefania Santoro, Medical Communication Strategy Manager at Aboca, healthcare providers now recognize the importance of adopting a treatment approach that also considers the environmental persistence of medications. This approach supports maintaining ecosystem balance and promotes long-term public health, emphasizing sustainable practices that benefit both individual patients and the planet.

A Recognition of Progressive Change

The award ceremony took place in the distinguished Sala Alessandrina at the State Archives of Rome. It was attended by representatives from government institutions, scientific societies, and patient advocacy groups. The event reinforced the significance of responsible scientific communication as a guiding principle for clinical practice, steering it towards more ethical and sustainable models of healthcare.

Through initiatives like this, the medical community continues to embrace innovative communication strategies that highlight the interconnectedness of health, environment, and ethical responsibility. Aboca’s recognition underscores a shift toward practices that prioritize both patient outcomes and ecological preservation, paving the way for a more integrated and sustainable future in healthcare.
