A Star’s Relative Claims She Wasn’t Kind to Céline

Lara Fabian wasn’t nice to Céline.

Vito Luprano, former artistic director and vice-president of A&R for Sony Music Canada for many years, was recently on QUB Radio in connection with the release of the book It’s All Coming Back To Me… From My Humble Beginnings to the Real Story Behind Céline Dion’s Career, dedicated to the icon’s career.

As-tu vu quelque chose? Discrétion assurée.

The artistic director, who presents himself as having been René Angélil and Céline’s right-hand man, and the creator of this book inspired by his perspective and experiences, claims that its publication came with two conditions: that René Angélil had died and that Céline Dion give her approval. According to him, these two conditions would indeed have been met.

Was Lara Fabian Mean to Céline?

Céline, that really hurt her…

On Mario Dumont and Isabelle Perron’s show, the man who signed Céline Dion when she was only 17 and who has worked in the industry for 40 years, reacted to a piece published recently in the Journal de Montréal. It reported that Céline Dion had threatened to quit Sony Music when she learned that the label planned to offer a contract to Lara Fabian to launch her career in the United States.

Vito confirmed that Céline declined, noting that René Angélil and he fully supported her decision.

“Sony in New York called me, to see if I could fix this. I said: ‘Listen, this isn’t going to work out,’ because, honestly (…) Lara Fabian wasn’t nice to Céline (…) she is completely negative toward her, and Céline, that really hurt her, and she kept saying: ‘I’m not Céline’,” he testifies, as Isabelle asks him whether Céline felt threatened by Lara, to which he replies that she did not.

“It’s because she spoke out against Céline for ten years (…) over a ten-year period,” he states.

According to him, Céline did not oppose Lara Fabian’s signing by Sony, but she would have warned that she would stop singing if that were the case. Sony ultimately chose to back Céline.

“It’s her fault, Lara’s fault, because why speak harshly against another artist, you know, it’s pretty tough in life (…) what you give, it comes back to you someday,” adds Vito.

According to Le Journal de Montréal, tensions reportedly began following the 1988 Eurovision final. That year, Céline Dion, competing for Switzerland, won the prestigious contest, while her rival, representing Luxembourg, finished in fourth place.

Further reports say Lara Fabian later claimed to be a better singer than Céline, remarks that Vito Luprano would recount in his book.

Despite these allegations, Lara Fabian frequently denied them and insisted there was no feud between them.

The release of a book on January 12 is likely to spark a lot of chatter and reach a wide audience, as Céline Dion remains a beloved figure among fans.
