Memory from A to Z: How to Regain Your Memory and Improve Recall

Walk into a room and, for a moment, forget the reason you stepped in. From this common experience emerges “Memory from A to Z.” A book about our most underrated superpower: memory. These pages aren’t just about finding your car keys again, but about understanding how that incredible personal time machine we call memory works: how to boost it, protect it, and reclaim it when it seems to slip away.

The Book

The volume revolves around a few big questions: why do we remember some things for a lifetime while others fade in seconds? Can we truly train our memory? Why is forgetting as important as remembering?

It’s a concise, practical guide organized around five overarching themes:

1. What is memory. History, culture, neuroscience, and tests to assess your memory.

2. When memory misbehaves. Memory disorders and problems, with tips on how to address them.

3. Mnemonic techniques for the Memory Olympics. Timeless and modern methods, with practical exercises.

4. The arsenal of remedies. A comparison of medications, holistic medicine, and natural cures.

5. Memory in art and literature. How memory has been told and depicted by great artists and writers.

The text results from the collaboration and integration of viewpoints and contributions from three authors: Bruno Brigo, for the section devoted to strategies that help preserve and train memory; Francesco Brigo, a neurologist and neuroscience expert, for the section on functional anatomy and the clinical pictures of memory disorders; and Fabio Dal Corobbo, a professor of Greek and Latin, for defining terms and the various mind-training techniques.

The Authors

Bruno Brigo: trained in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Padua, he earned his specialization in Internal Medicine. He lives and works in Verona. He practiced at the Integrated University Hospital of Verona for more than 35 years. He has sold over 1 million copies across 50 titles, including the bestseller Medical Examinations from A to Z.

Francesco Brigo: a neurologist, clinical methodologist, and medical historian. He is the author of numerous scientific articles and various studies on the history of neuroscience. His work blends clinical practice, data analysis, and historical research, with particular attention to the intersections of science, medicine, and culture.

Fabio Dal Corobbo: lives and works in Verona, where he teaches Latin and Greek and serves as a school administrator. With three strands to his career, he has dedicated his training to each—earning degrees from the universities of Padua, Venice, and Verona. He is a classical philologist and a musicologist.
