Fragile to the point that simply holding you in our arms made us afraid of breaking you. The conditions in which you were living with the other orphans were extremely difficult. When we arrived, two children had already died from the same pneumonia you were fighting with all your might. Malnutrition had taken its toll on part of your body… but never on your soul. I will always remember that American doctor who looked at us gravely before telling us: “Love… love and more love… will be enough.” So we loved. With all our strength. With all our hearts. As if our love could repair what life had already tried to damage. And slowly… the light returned to your eyes. Your smile began to bloom again. Your energy danced around us. Your joy filled the rooms of the house. Today, when I see you becoming the extraordinary woman you are, I fully grasp the immense privilege life gave us by placing your path on ours.
