I’m sick to death of luxury, I tell you
Cathy Gauthier was in town on the show Ça finit bien la semaine, where she covered a wide range of topics, including her brand-new one-woman show. True to form, the comedian appeared vibrant, candid, and generous, sharing anecdotes in a tone that was both funny and unfiltered.
Throughout the conversation, she also took the opportunity to set the record straight when money came up.
Back on Stage: Between Passion and Small Luxuries
With her distinctive humor, she explained her return to the stage, her need to keep working hard—not only driven by a passion for her craft but also to ensure financial stability, to pay her house, and to avoid wanting for anything. A sincere reflection that made the audience laugh while connecting with them on a personal level.
These revelations came after the host, Jean-Michel Anctil, asked how Dominique Michel managed to push her to come back on stage…
Well, it wasn’t Dodo who convinced her… it was simply reality.
A Mortgage to Pay!
You’re kind of going through withdrawal
“NO… no. It’s my mortgage! … It had been a year since I wasn’t working… I’m sick to death of luxury, I swear. No, no, but my real motivation has nothing to do with money. I’ve never worked for money. I work out of passion, and because I felt a real desire to reconnect with my audience. I miss that. It’s truly an adrenaline rush, you know, night after night getting that dose of love, and when you stop, it’s like quitting drugs, you know. So you’re kind of in withdrawal, and I need to be onstage, I need that. That’s what gives my life balance, because you know, when I’m doing nothing for too long, I tend to make poor choices. So I have to get back to work to keep myself away from vice, let’s put it that way,” the comedian shared on the late-night talk show set.
