Between lake and ocean, Hossegor—the most legendary splash of the Landes coast—unspools a rare charm where seaside elegance meets the energy of surfing. Pine-shaded strolls, terraces facing the Atlantic breakers, colorful markets and iodized aperitifs compose a rhythmically delicious curving of days. Yet often it is in a natural setting that blends chic with the raw, consistently discreet that the finest Hossegor hotels tuck themselves in—between Basque-Landes villas and contemporary retreats. Whether you crave rest, sport, or simply a breath of ocean air, there is a harbor for everyone here.
The Hydrangeas by the Lake
Here is a property that embodies the laid-back elegance of a coastal surf lodge where every detail nods to the coast’s charm. Nestled on the lake’s edge, this four-star hotel is designed as a family home, with a 1930s Basque-Landes spirit brought to life by Béryl Le Lasseur in contemporary décor. The combination of light woods, natural textures, and mineral, graphic touches creates a calming atmosphere. The ethos of the place even shows in the rummage-sale-esque finds and local artworks that dot the rooms.
With just 25 rooms, intimacy takes center stage. Each light-filled suite offers soothing views of the lake or pines, bedecked in luxurious fabrics and soft tones to forge a quiet Art Deco-inspired cocoon with subtle surf notes.
The dining room, fully open to the landscape, brings guests together around a forward-thinking, locally sourced menu crafted by chef Philippe Moreno. Dishes celebrate the Landes terroir with a balance of restrained precision and generous flavors.
The 450 m² spa, discreetly integrated into the heart of the buildings, offers a wellness interlude with a heated infinity pool, an outdoor Nordic bath, a hammam, and myBlend signature treatments.
From water-side adventures and bicycle rides to stand-up paddling or surfing the nearby ocean, each day follows the cadence of the elements. Here, luxury becomes a deep breath, a savory, generous lifestyle for a seaside escape brimming with harmony.
The Lakefront, Iconic House
Under the pines that filter the light of the Landes, facing Hossegor’s lake, rises a white-and-red villa dating from 1915, designed by Louis Lagrange.
One of the 400 protected houses in the area, once the jewel of surf elites riding the budding Landais wave. Forgotten for a while, it reemerges under the Iconic House banner, a duo—Thibaud Elzière and Robin Michel—who have made it their ode to the “Landifornie”—a seventies cross of Landes and California.
The exterior preserves a restrained, Basque-Landes soul; the 380 m² interior, entrusted to architect Dorothée Delaye, pulses with a relaxed energy: green-lacquered ceilings, reimagined paneling, and a giant marquetry piece in the bedroom—the hues evoke sea foam, the ocean, and sun-warmed sand. Local materials shape the tempo: colorful zelliges, pink quartz, rough travertine, white stone, patinated rattan. A long dining table like a surfboard, a library peppered with books on the art of sliding. And curator Josephine Fossey infuses local art into the atmosphere.
The open kitchen on the living room invites surf tribes to evenings of shared conviviality, and every corner breathes barefoot sociability.
Six cozy bedrooms—including a colorful kids’ room—each with their own bathroom, bathe in a sunlit atmosphere.
Here, hotel service elevates the private home: locally sourced breakfast served at the table, an electric car to zip to the Landes, kayaks, paddles, bikes, and bodysurf gear available. Private lessons with local champion Marc Lacomare, plus a signature pine-wood spa treatment, can be arranged.
A lakeside terrace for lingering sun-down aperitifs, a heated pool, a yoga room, and a pétanque court under the pines complete the picture. The mood is relaxed yet exacting, carried by the sound of the lapping water to heighten the sense of sea air and salt on the skin.
The Echasses Eco-Lodge
A quarter of an hour from Capbreton, the Landes pine forest swallows the road toward Saubion. A discreet gate, a gravel path, and The Echasses appears: four hectares nestled between marshy meadows and woodland. Claire and Thomas, the stewards, have tamed an abandoned field to birth an eco-lodge golf & surf, where eight elevated luxury pods—some with suites—float above an ecologically designed lake, while a generous lodge welcomes families.
The estate radiates Basque-Landes harmony, conceived by local architect Patrick Arotcharen: slender stilts inspired by Berber tents, locally sourced untreated wood, a design that recedes into nature. Time here glides untouched, among pines and ferns. A wood-burning stove crackles on chilly evenings, a well-stocked library, XXL bathrooms, and a terrace with a hammock. The atmosphere plays as a green pause, where frog songs cradle the nights.
In the main house, mornings and dinners unfold over local honey from the on-site hives, preserves from the orchard, and permaculture vegetables from the garden: meals become a convivial, simple, wholesome moment.
There is no formal spa, but a sauna, a Nordic bath, and massages are available. A holistic wellness atmosphere takes hold: dawn yoga, a 20-meter-long pool for laps, forest strolls, and golf just steps away. Kayaks, paddles, and bikes wait by the lake. Here, life is barefoot, lulled by the distant surf and, as night falls, gatherings on a perch-like terrace among pines with a glass in hand as the sun sinks.
Villa SEREN Hotel & Spa
Under the wind-twisted pines by the lake, Villa Seren rises as a Scandinavian-inspired refuge tucked away in the Landes.
Owned by Lénaïg and Philippe, ardent lovers of the place, this timbered façade mirrors the nearby pines—with no ancient past here, but a fresh, bioclimatic creation designed for harmony: high-performance exterior insulation, solar panels, and a Zeolite-filtered pool.
Just a five-minute walk to town and roughly ten by bike to the ocean, it invites morning runs, calm-water paddling, and sunset cocktails on the terrace.
The interior, clean and bright, radiates calm. Graphic wallpapers, expansive fabric sofas, and Scandinavian leather chairs create a seamless flow to the outdoors through wooden shutters. Local artisans have shaped the soul of this four-star haven: Studio Waaz’s plant mural, Woodstache’s surf boards.
With 30 rooms, including three suites, spread across three levels, spaces are generous yet unpretentious—rattan, metal, light wood punctuated by unique decorative pieces. The Joia apartment is ideal for families: a 75 m² space that combines two suites into a townhouse-style suite, extended by a 60 m² terrace.
At mealtime, Seren’issime, the restaurant-bar wine concept, serves generous, simple, locavore cuisine—80% of ingredients sourced within 150 kilometers—crafted by Matthieu Ibanez.
Then there is Seren’ity, a mosaic-blue spa: a sauna, a hammam, a sensory shower, an outdoor heated pool, and Phytomer treatments. Here too, life unfolds to the pace of the lake, a Atlantic breath in every moment.
Lo Rey by the Lake
Just steps from the marine lake, a gate opens onto four hectares of Landes forest—the vestige of a family-friendly campsite. Lo Rey by the Lake is first a Hossegor farmstead that has aged gracefully: thick walls, rough stone, patinated wood, a true terroir the owners Anne and Pascal fell for.
Here you’ll gather for a locavore breakfast and, if you like, a lunch or dinner prepared to order.
Not a hotel, not a campsite, but a one-of-a-kind place where you choose unusual lodging: a transparent bubble with a view of the stars, a futuristic geode, a stilted cabin, or this safari tent, for a watch of squirrels and birds. And for two, there is a dome with a private spa and on-site lunch delivered to your door. There is no swimming pool, but a promise of a slow, immersive experience—balmy strolls through the pine woods, morning yoga, and kayaking races. Here, luxury isn’t sought; it’s a genuine, nature-connected experience.
