At Palazzo della Cultura, Tecniche Nuove’s Milan headquarters, the Sixth National Training Course of OMI (Maternal-Infant Dentistry) took place. The event, dedicated to dentists, dental hygienists and the entire dental practice team, shone a spotlight on prevention and the promotion of oral health in the maternal-infantile years.
Opening the proceedings were Dr. Luigi Paglia, president of OMI, Dr. Matteo Beretta, scientific coordinator, and Dr. Simone Porro, administrator, who outlined OMI’s mission, a benefit corporation dedicated to disseminating the culture of primary prevention from the earliest thousand days of life, spanning from the prenatal period through the first two years of the child.
OMI’s goal is to promote global oral health grounded in a medical and preventive approach, built on healthy habits and proper lifestyles, with benefits for the overall well-being of the young patient and their family.
Key Topics at the Conference
During the day, the central topics for modern pediatric dentistry were explored in depth:
- the transition from an infancy-focused approach to a maternal-infant approach and the role of conscious sedation in managing young patients;
- the importance of the “Spa Inspired Oral Care,” which educates families about hygiene and oral health from the earliest months of life in a comfortable and serene way;
- nutrition in early childhood
- the correlations between oral health, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and the frenula;
- the relationship between masticatory function, diet and craniofacial development.
as the foundation for healthy growth;
Dr. Beretta also outlined the criteria for a proper maternal-infant first visit, with innovative communication tools aimed at parents and caregivers.
The day concluded with a forward-looking perspective; Dr. Michela Paglia emphasized that OMI renews its commitment to supporting professionals and families in a shared path of prevention and care, with the vision of «a story that starts earlier, to have healthy patients not only because we treat them well, but because we help them avoid illness».
