Mia Tinayre Opens Up About a Rough Patch After Star Academy

Nothing was happening.

Mia Tinayre was on the show Ça finit bien la semaine, alongside hosts Jean-Michel Anctil and Julie Bélanger. The young woman, who won the grand prize last year as the winner of Star Academy, wore an unmistakable happiness and genuine joy during this interview.

Radiant and visibly grateful for the path she’s traveled since her victory, she seemed to savor the moment, delighted to look back on her journey and on everything this adventure has brought her.

However, she also went through a tougher period after leaving the show, having trouble finding her bearings in this new pace of life. She explains it once again, revealing that at a certain moment she felt the need to refocus and reset the clock in order to regain her balance.

And for that, she needed the right support

These revelations came after Jean-Michel Anctil asked her whether the family environment could be more demanding for her sisters, given that Mia is always accompanied by her mother on tour. She replied that she loves them, but that this reality could pose a challenge for her younger siblings.

She then returned to her own journey, admitting that she herself had lost several friends after the ending of Star Academy, a period of upheaval that transformed her personal and professional life.

“The important thing is that people understand if you surround yourself with folks who don’t understand what you’re going through, what you’re doing right now, it’s going to pull you down. And me, well, of course I learned that after leaving Star Academy, because, you know, there are… You lose friends, and it’s incredible how much you realize it only later, there.”

“Have you lost any already?” asked Julie.

“Oh yes! (…) But you know, I kept thinking, I finished Star Academy at the same time as high school ended. Yeah. So there’s this… People go off to college, they change friend groups, they stop talking, they remove you from Snapchat, you know. So… it’s the world, the world of adolescence. You have to go through all of that at some point,” Mia revealed.

A difficult period after leaving Star Academy

“We went in there, but you forget so much of it when you’re in a bubble with the same people, in the same place, you know, for four months straight. You end up developing habits, you develop reference points. And when you leave there, you lose all those reference points, and you have to… It’s a lot of references. You have to come back to what you were used to before, and that, it’s a destabilizing experience. A month and a half later, I went into my room, looked at the ceiling, nothing was happening. Nothing at all. Then I called my best friend, and I was like, OK. Yes, we’re here,” Mia confided.

“Did you hit your wall?” asked Julie.

“We were really, really there.”

We wish Mia Tinayre many more wonderful projects, but also precious moments with family. 💛
