Hydration and Urinary Health

Summer poses a challenge to the body’s hydration balance. Higher temperatures and increased sweating lead to greater fluid loss, often not offset by adequate water intake. Vincenzo Mirone, a urologist and president of the PRO Foundation, issues a preventive appeal: «Drinking properly protects against common but bothersome conditions like cystitis, and against more serious conditions such as kidney stones».

Two liters a day, but well distributed

How much water to drink and how to distribute it are crucial aspects. «Many people drink in a disorganized way: all in the morning or only in the evening – notes Mirone. Instead the ideal is to divide the two daily liters into eight glasses, spread out over the course of the day». This simple habit helps dilute the urine, lowering its specific gravity, and reduces the incidence of infections and stone formation.

Prevention through awareness

Hydration isn’t just a matter of overall well-being; it’s an effective preventive urological strategy. The PRO Foundation, active in prevention and cancer research, renews its commitment to raising public awareness about the importance of proper lifestyle choices even in the summer months, when small daily gestures can truly make a difference.
