The pressure isn’t all on me
Singer Andrée Watters stopped by the show Dans les médias, hosted by Marie-Louise Arsenault. It was a fairly rare interview, as the artist had kept a lower profile in recent years. In this context, she agreed to answer the host’s questions with candor, who wanted to revisit various aspects of her career, as well as more personal elements of her journey.
Throughout the conversation, Arsenault notably touched on the money side as well as the reasons behind Watters’ retreat from the stage and the media for a while. Today, however, Andrée Watters is back on stage alongside the man who has shared her life for many years, Sylvain Cossette.
“What’s going on? (…) To bring you to that decision,” asked Marie-Louise Arsenault.
“Yes, but in recent years there have been moments in a career when everyone takes different paths. In my own career, there was a big upswing, then downs, small ups. I had projects that kept me busy, others that did not do as well. And at some point, my impression, if I can sum it up as simply as possible, is that I was tired of always having to go back into the fight a bit just to have something to sell. We were talking earlier, but yes, when you release an album, you have a product to sell, that’s the truth. You have to perform, you have to sell, you have to fill the rooms. And for me, that kind of return to work in that mindset wore me down. So I was tired of it. I just wanted to participate in my show business environment without always being the lead artist. So that’s why at that moment I got the offer to work with my partner,” she explained.
“With Sylvain Cossette” asked the host.
Finding Her Place
“Yes, someone told me: ‘Well, I need someone who would come and support me, who could work with me behind the scenes. And I feel you’re there for it. Would you be interested?’ From that moment, I found a place where I felt good, because I continue to live in the show business daily; I mingle with musicians, technicians. My partner, who is an artist, we have fun together, but during those years when I wasn’t on stage, it did me a world of good. I was, yes, tired,” admitted Andrée Watters.
A General Fatigue
“There was also physical fatigue. The exhaustion of touring, taking the stage late at night at festivals, driving 10-15 hours. It’s really a mix of emotional and physical fatigue. Then I told myself, you know, the people who come to see a show can’t see a girl like that who isn’t at her best. So I needed to step back and take a break, and that break lasted six years. Today, I’m back on stage with Sylvain, but it’s… yes, it’s the perfect setup because he’s the lead artist, so the pressure isn’t all on me. I’m enjoying it; it’s a treat,” the singer added.

Our Wishes for Happiness
Moved and vulnerable, she spoke openly and sincerely. We wish Andrée Watters much happiness, both personally and professionally.
