LongeViterbo 2026: Longevity and Care for Frail Older Adults

Longevity, frailty, and new models of elder care are at the center of the second edition of “LongeViterbo – Longevity Geriatrics Laboratory,” scheduled for Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7, 2026, at the Balletti Park Hotel in San Martino al Cimino. The congress offers an innovative, multidisciplinary, and personalized approach to combining quality of life with the sustainability of care in the face of population aging.

Promoted by the Roman Province of the Camillians, the congress is under the patronage of the Order of Physicians and Surgeons and Dentists of the Province of Viterbo, the Italian Society of Gerontology and Geriatrics, and the Association of Outpatient Geriatrists. It is chaired by Francesco Landi, director of the Department of Aging Sciences, Orthopedics, and Rheumatology at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. The scientific committee comprises Carmine Cafariello, Giuseppe Ferdinando Colloca, and Laura Tafaro.

Longevity and Care Models: the Longevity Aging2 Project

The aim is to foster exchange among healthcare professionals, researchers, and institutions on longevity, frailty, multimorbidity, and organizational innovation. A central reference is the Longevity Aging2 project, promoted by AGENAS and the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. The opening session, “Innovation and Research on Longevity,” includes Landi’s talk “Can longevity be learned? The need for a Longevity HUB?,” the presentation of the project by Giovanni Baglio (AGENAS) and a focus on applying the model in the Viterbo region.

The Program

The clinical management of the frail elderly takes center stage in the program, with topics of interest for general medicine: deprescribing, nutrition, polypharmacy, neuropsychiatric disorders, and therapeutic appropriateness. The session “Mind, Movement, and Therapy in the Frail Elderly” is organized in collaboration with UCSC Neurology, UCSC Psychiatry, and PTV Psychiatry.

The laboratory-style approach is the hallmark of the conference. On Friday afternoon, the Longevity Challenge will bring together working groups tackling real clinical cases, with the aim of translating scientific evidence into practical tools for daily practice. At the heart of the discussion will be iatrogenic parkinsonisms, nutrition in the frail elderly, deprescribing strategies, and neuropsychiatric disorders.

Geriatrics, Psychiatry, and Neurology residents from the University of Rome Tor Vergata, Sapienza University of Rome, Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome, and the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore will participate. For them, Saturday morning’s session “The Voice of the Young” is dedicated to presenting the conclusions of the working groups.

Following this, a session will address ethical, medico-legal, and caregiving aspects of elderly care: geriatrics certification, access to care benefits, advance directives (AD), and end-of-life decisions. The conference will conclude with the awarding of the Longevity Challenge 2026.

At Friday, November 6, the institutional addresses will include Chiara Frontini, Mayor of Viterbo; Mons. Orazio Francesco Piazza, Bishop of Viterbo; Egisto Bianconi, General Director of ASL of Viterbo; Antonio Maria Lanzetti, president of the Order of Physicians and Surgeons and Dentists of the Province of Viterbo; Michele Bellomo, General Director of the Roman Camillians and President of ARIS Lazio.

“LongeViterbo” aims to be a forum for advanced dialogue and training in modern, integrated geriatrics, focused on independence, dignity, and the well-being of the elderly.

The congress is ECM-accredited and confers 8 continuing education credits.
