Turning the results of scientific research into tangible tools to anticipate risks, improve citizens’ health, and promote prevention across the lifespan. This is the goal of DARE – Digital Lifelong Prevention, the centerpiece of the seminar scheduled for Sunday, October 25, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m., at the Le Ciminiere Exhibition Center in Catania, as part of ExpoMedicina 2026.
The gathering will be an opportunity to discuss research findings and the practical prospects of a strategic initiative aimed at evolving Italy’s health system.
Scientific Responsibility and National Network
The scientific responsibility for the seminar rests with Margherita Ferrante, from the University of Catania and the Rector’s Delegate for the Third Mission, and with Walter Mazzucco, from the University of Palermo.

Funded by the Ministry of University and Research as part of Italy’s National Complementary Plan to the PNRR, DARE brings together a national network of universities, research institutions, healthcare facilities, and technology partners. The collaboration is aimed at developing a new model of healthcare grounded in prevention, digital innovation, and the valorization of data.
From Care to Personalized Prevention
The project aims to foster the shift from a system primarily oriented toward treating diseases to a model capable of promptly recognizing risk factors, identifying diseases early, and supporting preventive interventions increasingly tailored to individuals’ characteristics and needs.
In this perspective, artificial intelligence, big data, and digital technologies are essential tools to enhance analytical and predictive capabilities, strengthen epidemiological surveillance, and contribute to the sustainability of the Italian National Health Service.
Cancer Registries, Lifestyles, and Cardiovascular Risk
The seminar will present some experiences and pilot projects developed within DARE. The focus will be on the applications of artificial intelligence to cancer registries, opportunities for epidemiological surveillance, and the use of digital devices in monitoring lifestyles.
It will also explore pathways dedicated to preventing cardiovascular diseases and the integration of human health and the environment under the One Health approach, which acknowledges the link between people’s well‑being, environmental conditions, and ecosystem health.
Interdisciplinary Research for the Health System of the Future
Through these experiences, DARE seeks to highlight the contribution of interdisciplinary research and digital transformation to building more effective, accessible, and personalized prevention strategies. The challenge is not limited to technological innovation but also to the ability to translate scientific knowledge into interventions that are useful in clinical practice and in citizens’ daily lives.
From research to practical application, prevention becomes one of the central pillars of the health system of the future: a system that can not only respond to disease but also intervene before it manifests, through innovative tools, with greater predictive capacity and a health outlook that accompanies a person throughout life.
The seminar is part of ExpoMedicina 2026 and confirms the role of dialogue between academia, research, healthcare, and technological innovation in shaping new perspectives for public health.
