Prevention, health promotion, and quality of life across the entire lifespan are at the heart of Longevity Day, the study day promoted by ASST Brianza. The event is scheduled for Thursday, October 15, 2026, at the Auditorium Testori in Palazzo Lombardia, in Milan, and will tackle a central question for one of the world’s longest-living nations: how must the health care system change to meet an increasingly aging population?
From 8:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., public administrators, directors of health care organizations, clinicians, economists, architects, entrepreneurs and researchers will come together in two sessions and two roundtables. Central to the program is building a systemic, multidisciplinary approach to longevity, with a public health service taking an active leadership role.
Population aging and the sustainability of the health system
Italy stands among the countries with the highest life expectancy in the world. This achievement of health and social progress presents new challenges for the sustainability of the health system, the organization of services, and quality of life.
“We need an evolution of the health care model: not only disease management, but prevention, health promotion, and quality of life across the lifespan, explains Michele Sofia, the Medical Director of ASST Brianza and the scientific lead of the event. – With Longevity Day we want public health care institutions to play a leading role in shaping policies for the health and well-being of the population.”
Longevity and health: the five themes at the center of the event
1. Longevity, active aging, and healthy aging
How to live longer while maintaining health, independence, and quality of life, shifting the focus from mere lifespan to healthspan.
2. Prevention, chronic disease management, and new models of care
Evolution from treatment to prevention, management of chronic conditions and frailty, palliative care, and rethinking health care models for a population that is aging more and more.
3. Longevity policies and governance
European, national, and regional strategies and the role of institutions and health care providers in steering the demographic transition.
4. Society, communities, and the Silver Economy
Age-friendly cities and infrastructure, the role of the Third Sector, Long-Term Care, the world of work, and economic opportunities tied to growing longevity.
5. Innovation, artificial intelligence, and healthspan research
Digital technologies and AI applied to health, biomedical aging research, and new prospects for extending years lived in good health.
