The Italian Association of Physicians of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Simmfir) and the Unified Union of Italian Ambulatory Medicine and Health Sector Professionalism (Sumai-Assoprof) have signed a collaboration protocol aimed at developing joint initiatives in support of healthcare professionals and Italy’s National Health Service.
At the heart of the agreement, signed by the respective national secretaries, Massimo Costa (Simmfir) and Antonio Magi (Sumai-Assoprof), is the recognition of a significant convergence of interests and the shared commitment to collaborate to improve Italy’s National Health Service, to elevate the professional roles represented, and to safeguard the rights of professionals.
The Objectives
The protocol establishes a stable, structured framework for collaboration that will enable the two organizations to promote joint initiatives in areas of common interest, in line with their respective statutory objectives.
«This protocol represents an important step toward strengthening the representation of physicians in physical medicine and rehabilitation and toward building concrete synergies with the ambulatory specialty sector. – says Massimo Costa – Our collaboration with Sumai-Assoprof will allow us to address, more effectively, the organizational, professional, and educational challenges affecting our discipline, while contributing to the improvement of Italy’s National Health Service».
Among the main aims of the agreement is the promotion of coordinated actions, at national and regional levels, to safeguard the legal and economic status of physicians in physical medicine and rehabilitation and of internal ambulatory specialists, with particular attention to contractual relationships with Italy’s National Health Service.
The two associations also commit to developing shared positions and regulatory proposals on issues of greatest interest to the represented categories, to be submitted to the competent institutions.
Another strategic area concerns education and training. Simmfir and Sumai-Assoprof will collaborate in designing and delivering educational events, continuing education courses, conferences, and seminars, including online formats, dedicated to clinical, organizational, managerial, and medical-legal aspects.
The agreement also aims to foster the exchange of knowledge and skills among members of the two organizations, promoting an increasingly integrated and multidisciplinary approach within primary care and ambulatory specialty care.
Among the shared objectives are, finally, the promotion of the quality of health services, the appropriateness of prescribing, and continuity of care, including through joint participation in technical roundtables and institutional working groups.
